Frequently asked questions about the group:
What is this ‘International First Aid Group of Helsinki – Finnish Red Cross’ group?
It’s a practice group for anyone of any first aid level to practice new or old skills.
Is this an official first aid practice group?
Yes, organizationally under the West-Helsinki branch.
What’s the difference between this group and any other group in the capital area?
We hold out practice sessions typically in English, though of course with so many languages already in the group it’s quite possible someone is there to help another language if needed.
Does it cost anything?
No, but it’s recommended to be a member of the Finnish Red Cross because it’s being a member that partly funds activities like first aid practice sessions, details here: http://www.redcross.fi/membership
Is this a free first aid course then?
It’s free, but it’s not a first aid course. It’s definitely recommended to get a good basic first aid knowledge no matter what your level of interest, and for a full list of Red Cross first aid courses in English, please see:

EA2 course contents:

Actually, we’ve been lucky enough to arrange our own EA2 course, so many of us already have the EA2 certificate. We intend to arrange such courses in the future.
Do I have to come to all the sessions?
You can come when you want. Typically in each session we will have a little theory and some practice on one topic. The following session might have some connection to the previous week’s topic, but it doesn’t matter if you miss a week. In fact, there’s typically always a new face to the session, so we cannot assume everyone was here the previous week. But at the end of the evening we all will have learnt something 🙂
Where do you guys practice first aid?
Most people prefer to be in Helsinki downtown somewhere, and so far we’ve been meeting up in the Kamppi area. Details are always given in the email invitations and on our Facebook page.
When do you guys practice first aid?
Currently, once per fortnight. This year we’re aiming to meet up on Thursdays @ 17:50 pm. All the events are detailed here: https://www.facebook.com/FirstAidHelsinki/events
What are long term goals of the group?
To be an active first aid group that can offer first aid services to the authorities (in language other than Finnish) for planned and unplanned events. There are many international events in Helsinki in which we can help with if we wanted. We are multicultural and multilingual.
